Fire tears through Puyallup shopping center

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Central Pierce Fire and Rescue crews were called to a fire at Valley Plaza Shopping Center in Puyallup just before 10 p.m. Tuesday. Upon their arrival the fire was upgraded to two alarms.

Flames were seen from the roof of the building which houses eight businesses.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, firefighters told KIRO 7 the fire was under control.

The fire was contained to a dry cleaner and a shoe repair business. However, several other businesses had smoke and water damage. There were no reported injuries.

Fire crews will be working throughout Wednesday morning monitoring hot spots.

A nearby Safeway grocery store will be closed Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
