The Pierce county SWAT team was serving a search warrant for the Puget Sound Auto Theft Task Force at a home in the 11600 block of 206th Avenue Court East early Tuesday. The warrant was for the investigation of possession of stolen vehicles, theft of vehicles, and gun, drug and other charges.

Detectives say the home has a history of methamphetamine and heroin activity as well as firearm-related issues, including a drive-by shooting in October.

Police said as SWAT team members approached the house, two men were seen on the front porch. A SWAT team member saw that one of the men was holding a razor blade. The man was ordered to drop the blade but refused, and at 5:51 a.m., the deputy fired one shot, hitting the man just above his knee.

The 34-year-old man was taken to a hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

The house was secured and detectives processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Detectives said they found a razor blade on the steps of the front porch where the man had been standing when he was contacted by the SWAT Team.

Once detectives have completed their work at the scene, the house will be turned over to the Auto Theft Task Force so they can search for the drugs, firearms and stolen vehicles believed to be there.

The Sheriff’s Department noted that since 1997, there have been 127 incidents recorded by dispatchers at the address, not including the shooting that happened Tuesday morning. These include burglaries, domestic violence, heroin overdose, noise complaints, road rage, suicide threats, theft and fraud.
