TACOMA, Wash. — A fatal motorcycle crash blocked all lanes of I-5 northbound in Tacoma for more than two and a half hours on Friday.
Troopers responded to the crash just after 1 p.m. at milepost 132 near M Street.
Investigators said a motorcyclist tried to slow down for traffic but hit another vehicle.
"Witnesses indicate the rider may have been attempting to make a lane change when he struck a vehicle in the process. The downed rider was potentially struck by a vehicle who fled the scene," Trooper Johnna Batiste said in a tweet.
Troopers said the 44-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene.
After 3 p.m., troopers said the roadway reopened.
