PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Drivers caught cutting the line for the Anderson Island ferry will soon face a fine.

The Pierce County Council approved a plan last week to ticket people who cut the line.

Starting at the end of June, line cutters will have to pay a $48 fine if they're caught.

County leaders say a Pierce County deputy will patrol the area to watch for drivers trying to push their way ahead of others.

The News Tribune reports Steilacoom leaders will consider approving a similar fine in about a week.

Problems started last summer when a passenger threatened a volunteer working at the dock, Dave Jacobson, vice president of the Anderson Island Citizen Advisory Board told the News Tribune.
