TACOMA, Wash. — Drake will perform Thursday. It’s a big show that is expected to translate into big business for Tacoma and the South Sound in general, especially with the KeyArena closed for its own renovations.
Close to 20,000 people are expected for Thursday’s show, and some may end up spending the night in Tacoma.
KIRO 7 checked, and from 2016 to 2017, and the number of overnight visitors in Tacoma jumped close to 6 percent – good news for local businesses.
“Usually, before you'd just have people go to Seattle, but now we have a lot of people come in and they say they are checking out the Tacoma area. Definitely, there’s growth there,” said Nga Hamada of Bubbles Tea shop.
Aside from Drake, other big shows coming to the Tacoma Dome this month include Justin Timberlake and 21 Pilots.
Carrie Underwood is also coming to the Tacoma Dome next spring. Her last two shows in Western Washington have been at KeyArena.
