PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Washington State Patrol troopers are searching for the driver of a box truck who fled the scene of a head-on crash on State Route 507 at 8th Avenue near Spanaway.

The crash happened before 11 p.m. Tuesday, and at one point, SR 507 was blocked in both directions, Trooper Johnna Batiste said.

Officials said the box truck driver failed to stop at the stop sign on 8th Avenue and turned onto southbound SR 507 into the northbound lane and struck a red Chevrolet Tracker head-on. Then the man driving the truck left the scene on foot.

The man is described as 6 feet tall, white, with a medium build and was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.
