Woman arrested after allegedly starting brush fire in Spanaway

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

SPANAWAY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a 40-year-old woman who allegedly started a brush fire Wednesday in Spanaway.

Fire crews were called just before 1 p.m. to Mountain Highway East near Pirnie Road East.

Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said the woman set a tent on fire at a homeless encampment and the flames spread.

The highway was partially closed going southbound so crews could contain the flames.

Crews were able to get the fire under control but spent hours mopping it up.

No one was injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
