LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A woman who was injured after a fire broke out inside her Lakewood apartment and later died at the hospital has been identified, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
According to the Tribune, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s office identified the woman Saturday as 42-year-old Jennie B. Houston.
On Friday, West Pierce firefighters were called to the Clover Creek Apartments in the 12500 block of Addison Street at 4:54 a.m.
When firefighters entered the apartment where the fire started, they found an unresponsive woman inside. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.
The fire was contained to the apartment where it started, but there was smoke and water damage to adjacent units.
About 10 people waited on a Pierce Transit bus to stay warm while firefighters determined which apartments were affected by smoke and water.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
