SEATTLE — The Space Needle started selling tickets for $1 Saturday morning to go up to the observation deck. This deal is the start of many events happening for the 50th year anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair that started on April 21, 1962.
The $1 price was the original cost of when the needle first opened.
People lined up as early as 7 a.m. on Saturday to get their tickets.
Space Needle officials said the dollar offer is only available while supplies last. After the tickets sell out, customers will have to pay the regular price.
At 3 p.m., the needle will be closed for the day to set up for a private event.
Earlier in the week, crews painted the top of the Space Needle in “galaxy gold” in honor of the events, and the color was the original color the needle was when it opened for the fair. Officials said it will remain galaxy gold throughout the summer.
Drivers are advised to take alternate routes around the Seattle Center due to heavy traffic that is expected to occur during the weekend’s celebration.
Sunday’s events include a musical tribute to the fair, zip line rides and a beer garden.
