NOW PLAYING ABOVE

SEATTLE — Hundreds of runners, joggers and walkers alike made a historic climb this morning.

For the first time since it’s opening in 1962, members of the public climbed the Seattle Space Needle’s twin staircases, in honor of the Base 2 Space stair climb, a cancer research awareness event.

The climb started at the structure’s base and ended at the Observation Deck.

The staircases have over 800 steps.
