OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state's first Powerball lottery winners have claimed their life-changing prize.
Washington lottery officials presented Lisa and Everett Quam of Auburn with a $90 million check at a news conference in Olympia Thursday.
The couple has not decided whether to take the lump sum or the annuity.
Both Lisa and Everett work at Boeing and have put in their resignation notices. Lisa worked in labor relations for 25 years; Everett was an assembly mechanic for 16 years.
When asked what she would do with the money, Lisa simply said, "Make sure my family is taken care of. Family comes first."
Everett said they were going to buy a car, which they had already picked out. Lisa said she planned on buying her first smart phone, but they had made no other plans for the money yet.
The winning ticket was sold on Saturday at Haggen Northwest Fresh in Auburn.
Lisa said she didn't check the ticket until Sunday night. After checking the numbers and having family members check them as well, she said she "freaked out," and walked around the house fanning her face.
The couple said neither slept that night.
