Stillaguamish River overflowed its banks, flooding low-lying areas

This is what Pioneer Highway in Silvana looked like early this afternoon, with water covering large sections of the roadway. Jeff Osmondson who lives in nearby Bryant was taking pictures.
He was asked if he was driving around looking at flooded streets.
"Yeah," Osmondson said, smiling. "Absolutely, it's what we do."
For Jack Kelley, the rising Stillaguamish River was getting dangerously close to his house.
"We've been waiting every year you know, going 'oh, no,' said Kelley. "But it has never been like this since we been here.  And that's 2 1/2 years.  You know it's like how far is it going to come? You know, how far?"
Visitors needed tall boots to visit Armando Barron.  The longtime resident declared this is the worst he has seen it in nine years.  He had agreed to talk but then --
"Real sorry," he said, suddenly.  "Can't talk to you. Got water coming into my barn, my media room.  So I got to jump on it."
The water kept rising.
Then two people got trapped in their vehicle trying to cross the deep floodwater.
Snohomish County Fire & Rescue suited up to go get them.
Instead, they got a slow push to safety.  We asked the driver, what she was thinking.
"It didn't look that deep," said Sandra Swanson of Stanwood, a bit sheepishly.  "The cop even said it just came so fast."
She was asked how her vehicle was doing.
"Not good," she said. "It won't start."
The flood warning on the Stillaguamish wasn't expected to expire until late Monday night.
