SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — An agreement forged between the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians and Snohomish County grants tribal police officers the same powers as all other police in the state -- according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s office.
The agreement grants Stillaguamish tribal police the power to make arrests of non-tribal members.
"The agreement allows Stillaguamish police officers to handle all calls for service on tribal lands, no matter who commits the crime," said Stillaguamish Police Chief Joe Orford in the release.
According to the sheriff’s office, there are 307 enrolled Stillaguamish tribal members.
The agreement also grants tribal officers the power to cross commission Sheriff’s deputies.
