The 34-year-old suspect is charged in a wild shooting spree in Puyallup last Tuesday that left one man dead and more than a dozen homes and cars, including police cars, riddled with bullets.
According to the charges, Terault shot and killed 71-year-old Richard Johnson before running through a neighborhood firing at random, stealing an SUV and leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash near the state fairgrounds where he was then shot and run down.
“We wanted to charge him with everything, we want to make sure he doesn’t ever get out of prison,” said Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Lindquist.
Terault also faces weapons enhancements on several of the charges. Lindquist said the sentence on those alone could total as much as 60 years.
Terault pleaded not guilty during arraignment in Pierce County Superior Court on Monday. His bail was set at $5 million.
