The FBI believes it’s getting closer to tracking down a Tacoma gang member accused of gunning down a 20-year-old woman. Camille and Josh Love were shot 10 years ago in what investigators believe was a case of mistaken identity. The brother and sister were not gang members, but they were driving a red car and Josh was wearing a red jacket, which is the color of the shooter’s rival gang.
“They were out cruising, looking for revenge. So they just decided I fit the description and the rest is history,” said Josh Love. Five gang members have already been convicted in the shooting.
Santiago Mederos is now on the FBI’s Ten Most-Wanted Fugitive list and believed to be in Mexico, somewhere between the states of Guerrero and Morelos. The FBI is offering up to $100,000 for information that leads to Mederos’ capture.
“I believe there are people in our community, in Pierce County in this area, that are in contact with persons in Mexico that know his whereabouts today," said FBI Special Agent Terry Postma.
Josh Love had not spoken publicly in 10 years and told KIRO 7’s Dave Wagner that he lives with a tremendous amount of guilt. “I always feel like I let my sister die. I always feel like I could have done more, should have done more," said Love.
If you have any information that can help track down Santiago Mederos, you can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward. Tips can be sent to FBI.gov or 1-800-CALL-FBI.
