2 women, teen dead in possible homicide-suicide near Georgia-Florida line

The GBI is investigating three deaths in a small south Georgia town, and the agency's preliminary investigation Tuesday evening found that it was a double homicide-suicide.

SAINT GEORGE, Ga. — The GBI is investigating three deaths in a small south Georgia town, and the agency's preliminary investigation Tuesday evening found that it was a double homicide-suicide.

The three bodies were found in their home by the Charlton County Sheriff's Office in the 1400 block of St. Marys River Bluff Road in Saint Georgethe GBI said in a news release.

The dead were identified as Caleb Logan Butts, 15, Kimberly Gayle Butts, 39, and Jan Elizabeth Kirkland, 64. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday to confirm the preliminary findings, the release said.

The agency previously said in a tweet that the public is no longer in danger. No other details have been released.

Saint George is close to the Georgia-Florida border, and it’s about 300 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
