HATTIESBURG, Miss. — At least 22 soldiers were hurt while parachuting in a Wednesday night training exercise at Mississippi's Camp Shelby military base, officials said.
According to WDAM-TV, the incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. after members of the Anchorage, Alaska-based 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division parachuted from a C-130 military transport plane carrying 89 troops. But high winds caused many of the soldiers to land in trees, a Camp Shelby official told the TV station.
U.S. Army Alaska spokesman John Pennell said seven injured paratroopers were taken to nearby hospitals, while 15 others were treated at the scene, WDAM and CBS News reported.
