STOCKHOLM — A$AP Rocky, the Harlem rapper who was detained in Stockholm in connection with a June 30 fight, has been charged with assault in the alleged incident, authorities said.
In a statement released Thursday, Swedish Prosecutor Daniel Suneson announced charges against Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, and two other people, The Associated Press reported.
"I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime despite claims of self-defense and provocation," Suneson said, according to Reuters.
Rocky, 30, was taken into police custody more than three weeks ago, just days after the brawl in Stockholm's city center, the AP reported. Video of the incident quickly circulated online, according to ABC News.
Rocky has said he was defending himself during the fight, ABC reported.
