HONOLULU — Congressman Mark Takai has died at the age of 49 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, his office confirmed Wednesday.
Takai, a Democrat from Hawaii, was serving his first term in the House of Representatives at the time of his death, according to the Honolulu Civil Beat.

Takai was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October.
His family released a statement, thanking everyone for their support and asking for privacy.
