PETALUMA, Calif. — He's a tramp, but the world loves him.
According to The Associated Press, Scamp the Tramp, whose breed is unknown, bested 18 other not-so-pretty pups Friday to win the 2019 World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California.
Scamp and his owner, Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa, won a $1,500 grand prize and $1,500 for charity, the AP reported. The pair also will appear on NBC's "Today" show.
Morones said she found Scamp on Petfinder, a pet adoption site, in 2014.
"It was on the way home that I knew I made the right choice," she said in a statement published on the event's website. "There we were, two strangers in a car on the way home to a new start. Bob Marley was playing 'One Love,' and I looked over and little Scamp was bobbing his head. It was like he knew he had found his forever home."
Wild Thang, a Pekingese from Los Angeles, took second place in the contest, while Tostito, a Chihuahua who lives in Maine, took third, the AP reported. Meatloaf, a bulldog mix from Sacramento, won the People's Choice Award.
