The bus was headed toward Grand Canyon West, Mortensen said. Grand Canyon West is best known for the Skywalk, a glass bridge that protrudes 70 feet from the canyon walls and gives visitors a view of the Colorado River, which lies 4,000 feet below.
The tour bus was run by a Las Vegas-based company, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
In recent years, there have been fatal tour bus crashes near the Grand Canyon, the newspaper reported.
In 2010, two passengers died and several others were injured when a Las Vegas tour bus headed for the Skywalk crashed, the Review-Journal reported. A year earlier, seven people were killed and nine others were injured after a tour bus carrying tourists from China overturned 27 miles south of the Hoover Dam.
