CUTLER, Calif. — A 12-year-old California boy accused of opening fire at a teen during a robbery attempt was shot by the victim, authorities said.
According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, the boy walked up to a car in Cutler on Nov. 26 and attempted to rob a 17-year-old boy who was sitting in the front seat of hte vehicle, KFSN-TV reported.
When the 12-year-old pulled out a gun, the teen attempted to back out of a parking space and leave the area, the television station reported.
Deputies said the 12-year began shooting into the victim’s vehicle, KMPH-TV reported. The 17-year-old then grabbed his own gun and fired a shot through his windshield, wounding the preteen, according to the television station.
The 12-year-old was released from an area hospital on Dec. 16 and subsequently arrested on a warrant, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. The boy was booked into the Tulare County Juvenile Detentions Facility, where he is being held without bail.
An investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
