In a news release, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating a home invasion and shooting that happened Friday around 5 a.m. in the Lake Padgett area.

Investigators confirmed that three people were shot and sustained significant injuries. They were taken to the hospital.

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told WFLA that the victims were a 60-year-old man, a 38-year-old woman, and her 6-year-old daughter.

It is believed that the shooting was not random and that it was part of an “ongoing dispute between individuals known to each other,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Nocco told the news outlet that the 60-year-old man had gotten home around 4:40 a.m. and found four people outside. An altercation ensued and he ended up getting shot.

The four people then went inside the house and searched for the child’s father, according to WFLA. Nocco said that the four ended up going inside the master bedroom, where they found his girlfriend and their daughter. Both were shot.

The actual target, the child’s father, returned home just after deputies arrived at the house, Nocco told the news outlet.

Preliminary information showed that there was an altercation last week at “an adult establishment” in Tampa, Florida, according to the sheriff’s office. When the victim was heading home, there was a road rage incident that appeared to be related to the first incident. Since then, both the victim and the other party involved have been in ongoing communication that escalated.
