According to a news release from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, a patrol sergeant in Joliet heard between 10 and 12 shots at about 12:39 a.m. CDT.

The deputy said he observed more than 100 people fleeing the area.

Witnesses told the officer that nearly 200 people were attending the party when two men standing on a porch overlooking the event opened fire, WMAQ reported.

More law enforcement officials responded and discovered multiple people shot in the backyard and at nearby homes, the sheriff’s office said.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, WLS-TV reported. More than a dozen people were taken to area hospitals, the television station reported.

Four of those victims suffered life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The names of the victims have not been released, authorities said.

Officials said they were searching for at least two shooters, according to WMAQ.

An investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
