MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Two people died after a military plane crashed near an Alabama airport on Friday evening, the airport’s executive director said.
The plane, which was based in Columbus, Mississippi, crashed about 15 miles southwest of Montgomery, Montgomery Regional Airport executive director Marshall Taggart Jr. told WSFA.
The Air Force confirmed that the plane, a T-38 training aircraft, was from the 14th Flying Training Wing that was based out of Columbus Air Force base, WFSA reported.

The National Transportation Safety Board from Birmingham is investigating the crash, WIAT reported.

The crash did not affect travel for the airport, Taggart said.
Taggart said the aircraft was headed to Tallahassee, Florida, at the time of the crash, WFSA reported.
