NEW YORK — Three people, including a 4-year-old girl, were shot in Times Square on Saturday evening, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at the iconic New York City intersection at about 4:55 p.m. EDT, WNBC reported. Authorities said the victims were shot at West 44th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan, WPIX reported.
According to police, the 4-year-old girl was struck in the leg, a 24-year-old woman was hit in her thigh and a 43-year-old woman was shot in the foot, WNBC reported.
Update 10:55 p.m. EDT May 8: Police said the 24-year-old woman shot in the leg was a tourist from Rhode Island, WPRI reported. The 4-year-old was from Brooklyn, New York, and the 43-year-old woman was from New Jersey, police said.
Update 8:11 p.m. EDT May 8: At a news conference, police said the 4-year-old was undergoing surgery at an area hospital.
Original report: The victims were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, WPIX reported.
Shots were fired after a dispute between a group of four men, WNBC reported. One of the men began firing a weapon and hit the victims, who were standing nearby, the television station reported. Police officers were reportedly nearby when the shooting occurred and have a photo of the suspect.
“Thankfully, these innocent bystanders are in stable condition,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted. “The perpetrators of this senseless violence are being tracked down and the NYPD will bring them to justice. The flood of illegal guns into our city must stop.”
No arrests have been made, according to WPIX. Police are investigating.
