LAKE CHARLES, La. — At least 200 people are sick with the norovirus after visiting a Louisiana casino.
Health officials said the outbreak started at the L’Auberge Casino and is now being transmitted to others in the community, KNOE reported.
“How it started at this point doesn’t really matter anymore, because now we are getting transmission within the community,” Dr. Lacey Cavanaugh, with the Louisiana State Health Office, told KNOE. “So, however, people picked it up in that setting they are now taking it home and spreading it from one family member to another family member to another family member."
Norovirus is highly contagious and can cause vomiting and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
