NEW YORK — Influenced by his television “son,” actor Tom Selleck participated in the 2020 Tip Challenge, leaving $2,020 for a server at a New York restaurant.
Selleck, who plays police commissioner Frank Reagan on “Blue Bloods,” left the gracious gratuity on a $204.68 bill at Elios, People reported.
“For Elios, I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg’s ‘Tip Challenge’ with my sincere hope for a better 2020,” Selleck wrote in a note with the tip. “Thank you all.”
Selleck left the tip during a visit in November but had kept it a secret, CNN reported.
Wahlberg, who portrays Selleck’s son on the show, has left servers similarly sizable tips a couple of times this year.

“I found out that my TV Dad Tom Selleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side,” Wahlberg said on social media. “Love ya dad.”

The trend started when a Michigan server received a monumental $2,020 tip on a $23 bill. She later dined and tipped her server $20.20. Then on New Year’s Day, Wahlberg got involved, leaving a $2,020 tip for a server at IHOP. Then in November, Wahlberg left a $2,020 tip on a $35.27 tab at a Massachusetts restaurant.
“I didn’t start it but I’m proud to be part of it,” Wahlberg said. “To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year — THANK YOU.”
