CHICAGO — A young child accidentally shot and killed a 4-year-old girl after finding a loaded gun in a Chicago home, authorities said.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times and WBBM-TV, the incident occurred about 6 p.m. Thursday at a home on South Carpenter Street in Englewood. Chicago police said a man had a gun inside his bag when he was visiting the home. A child looked through the bag and found the weapon, which discharged, striking 4-year-old Makalah McKay in the chest, authorities said.
Emergency responders took McKay to a nearby hospital, where she later died, the news outlets reported.
Police have questioned a man in connection with the shooting, WBBM reported. No one has been charged in the case, police said.
