Because the drugs were found in federal waters, they were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.

It’s not the first lost shipment found floating off South Florida waters.

In July, more than 50 pounds of cocaine washed up on a beach in Grassy Key. Earlier that month authorities also found 29 bricks of cocaine in Marathon.

In August and September nearly 150 pounds of marijuana were found near Key West and washed ashore. In October, more than 30 pounds of marijuana had washed up in the Florida Keys.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
