MAYFIELD, Ky. — Actor Hagen Mills died Tuesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting and injuring the mother of his 4-year-old daughter, Kentucky authorities confirmed.
Mills, 29, was pronounced dead around 6 p.m. Tuesday after authorities responded to the home of 34-year-old Erica Price, who met them outside the residence with gunshot wounds to her chest and arm, People reported.
Mayfield Police Chief Nathan Kent told WPSD the incident is being investigated as an attempted murder-suicide.
Police said Mills held his daughter and her grandmother hostage inside the home until Price returned from work and believe he opened fire on her as she entered the home, KMOV reported.
Neither the child nor grandmother were injured in the incident, People reported.
Price is listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital, and Mills was pronounced dead at the scene, People reported, noting authorities have been unable to determine a motive.
“That would be speculative; whereas, we are unable to interview the perpetrator,” Kent told the publication.
Mills is best known for his 2016 role on the FX comedy series “Baskets,” where he performed alongside stars Louie Anderson and Zach Galifianakis. He also appeared in the 2020 horror film “Star Light.”
"We were shocked and saddened to hear of the events occurring (Tuesday) involving Hagen Mills, who was a cast member of our film Star Light. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Hagen’s family and his daughter and all others impacted by this tragic day,” “Star Light” producer Cheryl Dillard Starulakis said in a prepared statement.
