The St. Lucie County Fire District said a tractor-trailer driving ahead hit the edge of the turtle, sending it flying, WPEC reported.
The turtle landed, seemingly unharmed, in the backseat. The turtle was later taken and released safely.
The driver was not injured.
This is not the first time a flying turtle has caused an accident on a Florida road. In April, a turtle crashed through a windshield, injuring a 71-year-old woman driving. In that incident the turtle suffered some slight scratches on its shell.
