Alabama man dies in motorcycle crash while escorting funeral procession

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday while escorting a funeral procession, authorities said.

Larry Darnell Williams, 67, of Lincoln, was pronounced dead at the scene in Tuscaloosa, AL.com reported.

According to a news release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Williams was among a group of riders leading the funeral procession when he made a U-turn at about 12:18 pm CDT to retrieve a phone he forgot at the church during the funeral service.

Williams was struck by another motorcycle driver, who was traveling in the left lane and was unable to avoid Williams, who had pulled out from the right lane, WBRC reported.

Williams’ passenger, a 54-year-old woman, was injured. The driver of the other motorcycle, a 28-year-old man, was also injured, according to Tuscaloosa police. Both were taken to an area hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
