MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An American Airlines ground crew employee was reportedly killed on a ramp at the Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama on Saturday.
The Montgomery Regional Airport released a statement on Twitter on Saturday evening, confirming that at around 3 p.m., a ground crew Piedmont employee with American Airlines was involved in a deadly incident. No further details were immediately available.
“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines, said Wade A. Davis, Executive Director of MGM in the news release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
The incident happened on the ramp where an American Airlines regional carrier flight was parked, the Federal Aviation Administration said, according to Reuters.
In a statement to The Associated Press, American Airlines said that the company was “devastated by the accident involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines.” Piedmont Airlines is a regional carrier at Montgomery Regional Airport for American Airlines.
All flights outbound and inbound at Montgomery Regional Airport were grounded Saturday following the incident, according to CNN. The Montgomery Regional Airport on Twitter said that normal operations resumed at 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
The FAA and National Transporation Safety Board are expected to investigate the incident, according to Reuters.
No further information has been released, including the name of the deceased, according to CNN.
