‘American Idol’ winner Samantha ‘Just Sam’ Diaz says she has been hospitalized

Samantha Diaz, the Harlem subway singer known as “Just Sam” who won ABC’s “American Idol” competition in 2020, said she has been hospitalized.

Diaz, 23, documented her hospital stay through her Instagram Stories, People reported. She did not say why she had been admitted to the hospital but posted a photo of a scale and a caption that read, “100 lbs. is crazyyy ... I seriously need help.”

Diaz also thanked fans for their support, according to People.

“I’m grateful for the prayers, everyone,” she said. “I’m doing much better now.”

TMZ also reported about Diaz’s trip to the hospital.

According to her Instagram account, Diaz has more than 148,000 followers.

She won the first remote finale in “American Idol” history in 2020, the year the long-running talent contest left the stage due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My grandmother has been saying that she doesn’t believe that people like us can have their dreams come true,” Diaz said while being interviewed on the show. “This is proof to her.

“I kept on pushing, kept on singing, and look where it’s brought me. I hope to inspire all the little girls who believe their dreams can’t come true. Anyone can do it.”
