TUCSON, Ariz. — An Arizona corrections officer was placed on administrative leave Thursday, five days after he accidentally shot himself and another man, officials said.
Raul Burruel, 30, and another man were sent to an area hospital with serious injuries after the shooting in Sahuarita on Saturday, KOLD reported.
Burruel was not on duty when he fired the gun and was not acting in an official capacity, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. The gun was not issued by the Sheriff’s Office and no arrests have been made, KNXV reported. Burruel has worked for the corrections department for seven years, the television station reported.

According to detectives, Burruel fired a handgun, and the bullet when through his hand and into the chest of the other man, KOLD reported.
In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said the shooting “is believed to be an unintentional discharge.”
