An Arizona man who claimed he had been kidnapped recanted his story during an interview with police, confessing that he simply wanted to avoid going to work, the Casa Grande Dispatch reported.

Brandon Soules, 19, was arrested Wednesday and charged with false reporting, according to a news release from the Coolidge Police Department.

Police officers said they found Soules near a water tower with his hands tied behind his back and a bandana stuffed in his mouth, the Dispatch reported.

Soules told police that two masked men had abducted him, knocked him unconscious and then left him near the water tower, The Associated Press reported.

In its news release, the Coolidge Police department said that detectives, after conducting an investigation, found evidence showing that Soules had made up his story. Soules later admitted during an interview with detectives that he fabricated the incident.
