Avanti recalls frozen cooked shrimp over salmonella concerns

Avanti Frozen Foods is recalling certain packages of frozen, cooked, peeled and deveined shrimp because of the potential for salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

According to a news release, the shrimp products -- some of which were packaged with cocktail sauce -- were distributed nationwide from late December 2020 to late February 2021. Avanti Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd. is recalling the items with “an abundance of caution.”

There have been six reports of salmonella-related illnesses associated with the product, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The brand names of the products are Censea, Hannaford, Chicken of the Sea, CWNO, Open Acres, Waterfront Bistro, Honest Catch, 365 and Meijer, the FDA said in its release.
