‘Because of You’ singer Keith Martin found dead in Philippines condominium

Keith Martin, an American rhythm and blues artist known for his 2004 single “Because of You” was found dead Friday in his condominium in the Philippines, police said. He was 57.

Building workers found Martin’s body after being alerted by his neighbors of a foul smell coming from the condominium at about 7:15 a.m. local time, The Philippine Star reported.

According to the Quezon City Police Department, Christine Lleno, 40, property manager of Lafayette 1 Condominium in Eastwood City reported the incident to authorities, The Manila Times reported. Police said the body was discovered inside the unit on a bed, according to the newspaper.

The case was turned over to district headquarters’ Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit for more extensive investigation and disposition, Lt. Col. Cristine Tabdi, the Bagumbayan Police Station chief, told the Times.

A cause of death has not been revealed.

Singers Kyla and Kris Lawrence went on social media to express their grief over the musician’s death.

“In shock and in disbelief.. You will be missed, Keith Martin,” Kyla tweeted. “Thank you for the inspiration. You will leave a legacy of great music that is timeless and will always be remembered.”

“Gone too soon,” Lawrence wrote in a Facebook post. “Your music will live in our hearts forever.”
