EL PASO, Texas — A Texas woman woke up to the disturbing sensation of blood dripping onto her face from the ceiling of her apartment, authorities said.
Ana Cardenas, of El Paso, said she woke up at about 4 a.m. Wednesday after hearing a dripping noise, KTSM reported. Instead of rain, Cardenas said she discovered blood splattered on the walls of her apartment, her bed and on her body. A ceiling fan had propelled the drops across the room, the television station reported.
“It grossed me out, I was in shock, I thought, ‘This isn’t real this is a dream, wake up,’” Cardenas told KTSM. “I called maintenance and they said, ‘Are you sure?’ and I said, ‘Blood is falling on me.’”

After calling 911, authorities determined that Cardenas’ upstairs neighbor had been dead for several days and that his blood had seeped through his floor to the apartment below. Authorities determined that the man, aged between 55 and 70, had been dead for nearly a week.
“The firefighters knocked down his door and the body was laying exactly where my fan is underneath,” Cardenas told KTSM. “He had carpet but the blood seeped through to my ceiling.”
“They took the fan down and a pool of blood came down.”
According to Cardenas, police said her neighbor died from natural causes and had been decomposing.
Cardenas said she stayed at a hotel but is now battling the management at her apartment complex for compensation from the damage caused to her apartment.
“I told them my bed is covered in blood and they told me they’re sorry but the insurance won’t pay it,” Cardenas told KTSM, adding that she did not have renter’s insurance.
Her lease was running out, and Cardenas said she is looking for a new place to live.
“It was awful, an awful impact,” Cardenas told KTSM.
Cardenas started a GoFundMe page to cover the damages.
