PENSACOLA, Fla. — Human remains discovered Saturday by Boy Scouts underneath a Pensacola, Florida, building have prompted an investigation.
The scouts, who were conducting a cleanup as part of an Eagle Scout project, found the remains under an East La Rua Street structure, the Pensacola Police Department stated in a news release.
According to the release, staff with the Escambia County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that the bones are human, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
The remains were found in a crawl space under the city-owned structure, designated a historical building, that has been used intermittently by civic groups, including the Boy Scouts, WEAR-TV reported.
Anthropologists from the University of West Florida’s department of anthropology are assisting in the investigation, the PNJ reported.
