CHICAGO — A Chicago businessman has announced a second, larger gas giveaway for the city’s drivers.
According to The Chicago Tribune, Willie Wilson, who previously ran for Chicago mayor, took to social media Friday to say he will donate $1 million in gas beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at 50 stations in the city and Cook County. Participating locations will lower their prices and give each vehicle $50 worth of gas until the $1 million total is reached, a news release said.

“The need among the community is so great,” Wilson said in a statement. “Soaring gas prices have caused a hardship for too many of our citizens.”

The announcement came one day after Wilson gave away $200,000 in gas at 10 area gas stations – an event that caused traffic jams in parts of Chicago, WGN reported.
On Friday, gas prices within the Chicago city limits averaged $4.83 per gallon, well above the national average of $4.274, according to AAA.
