The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum actually announced Jeter’s selection in January 2020, but his delayed induction was originally postponed from last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the MLB.

Jeter, who joins Larry Walker, Ted Simmons and Marvin Miller in the Class of 2020, was elected by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) by 99.7% of the vote, Fox News reported. Jeter’s election was one vote short of unanimous.

There was only one Hall of Fame class for Wednesday’s ceremony, as neither the BBWAA nor the veteran committee elected any new members for induction in the class of 2021, CBS Sports reported.

Looking at his statistics from Baseball Reference, Jeter played his entire career with the Yankees organization, including a stint in the minors. He was drafted by the Yankees in the first round, sixth pick of the 1992 amateur draft and was signed on June 27, 1992. By the time he retired in 2014, he played 20 years, finishing with:

  • 11,195 at-bats
  • 3,465 hits (sixth most all-time)
  • 1,923 runs
  • 1,311 RBIs
  • 260 home runs

Jeter, who was a .310 hitter, appeared in 14 All-Star Games, has five Gold Gloves and five Silver Sluggers, CBS Sports reported. Jeter was named both an All-Star MVP and a World Series MVP. He was the rookie of the year in 1996 and has five World Series rings (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009), according to the Hall of Fame.
