Girl Scout uniforms are changing with the times and demands.
Working with the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Girl Scouts have redesigned the iconic uniform, coming up with new designs for a vest, sash and 18 other pieces that are a perfect fit for girls from grade six to 12, “Good Morning America” reported.
The designs take both fashion and utility into play, along with girls’ ability to customize their look and still stay in uniform.
There are skater dresses, leggings (with pockets!) and a denim jacket among the new uniform pieces.

The main driver for some of the designs was technology and if a pocket could fit the most current version of an iPhone, The New York Times reported.
Even the redesigned iconic Girl Scout sash has a pocket for a phone, the Times reported.
It’s been more than 20 years since the uniform was redesigned.

The design process itself even went high tech, using 3D virtual prototyping and design software to get away from needing physical samples of the clothing, “GMA” reported.
The organization is also using the new uniform designs to not only keep comfortable while on their adventures, but also keep girls in Scouts instead of becoming less active in their troop, or dropping out when they’re in middle and high school, the Times reported.
