PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — A 43-year-old man jumped overboard from a cruise ship about 55 miles east of the Florida coast early Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
According to a spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line, the man jumped off its Mardi Gras cruise ship as the vessel was returning to Port Canaveral, WFLA-TV reported.
The cruise line said it searched for the man until the Coast Guard arrived on the scene and released the ship to return to port, according to the television station.
“The Carnival Care Team is supporting the guest’s family,” Carnival spokesperson Matt Lupoli told The Associated Press. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family.”
The Mardi Gras, the line’s newest ship that made its debut last summer, will continue sailing, according to the AP.
No other information was available Saturday about the man.
