Coronavirus: Alabama woman donates flowers when wedding is postponed

MOBILE, Ala. — An Alabama couple’s wedding was postponed Saturday, a casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. But the bride still managed to shine on what was supposed to be her biggest day.

Bailey King was scheduled to marry Eric Griffin in her hometown of Mobile. Even with cases of the COVID-19 being revealed, King’s wedding was still scheduled, AL.com reported.

Then came Monday, when gatherings of more than 50 people were prohibited, and the ceremony had to be postponed until July 18.

King’s mother, Jeannie King, realizing the flowers ordered for the wedding had already been delivered to a florist shop in nearly Saraland, persuaded her daughter to donate them “to someone who could enjoy them,” AL.com reported. The bride-to-be quickly agreed.

Toni Steiner, a consultant at Belle Bouquet Florist and Gift in Saraland, contacted an assisted living and memory care facility and arranged to deliver the assortment of white and blush flowers, AL.com reported.

Facility officials said they would use them to celebrate a resident’s birthday, the website reported. The flowers arrived Thursday, and the woman celebrating her birthday could not be happier, AL.com reported. The woman asked Steiner for Bailey King’s address so she could write a thank-you note.

“It was such a gracious delivery to our community,” Jennifer Mares, a spokeswoman for Knollwood Pointe, told AL.com. “It was definitely such a happy surprise for the residents, and it helped lift their spirits.”
