Coronavirus: New York mom, 6 kids removed from JetBlue flight because 2-year-old wouldn’t wear mask

NEW YORK — A New York mom is making headlines after she said she and her children were removed from a JetBlue flight because her 2 1/2-year-old daughter wouldn't wear a face mask.

According to WNBC and WABC, the incident, which was captured on video, occurred Wednesday after Chaya Bruck, of Brooklyn, and her six children boarded a flight from Orlando, Florida, to Newark, New Jersey. Bruck said she and all the children were wearing masks except for her toddler daughter, who kept removing hers.

That’s when a flight attendant approached Bruck and said the toddler had to wear a mask under the airline’s policy, which requires face coverings for all passengers ages 2 and older, the news outlets reported.

"I said I could try [to get her to wear the mask], but then she was pulling it off," Bruck told WNBC. "A few minutes later, they came to me and they told me that I have to gather my things and I have to get off the plane."

Employees then asked Bruck's family to leave the plane, but she refused, WNBC reported. Although other passengers defended the family, the airline decided to temporarily remove all passengers from the plane, then let everyone back on board except the Brucks, she said.

JetBlue previously allowed small children to be exempt from its mask policy, but the airline later revised its rules to require "all travelers 2 years and older" to "wear a face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their journey," according to WABC.
