DeWine, 75, tested positive after experiencing mild symptoms, his office announced in a statement on Twitter. His diagnosis was confirmed by his personal physician, according to the statement.

The governor had a runny nose, headache, body aches and a sore throat, according to the statement.

DeWine, who is fully vaccinated, is in quarantine in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol, WLWT-TV reported.

The governor was given a monoclonal antibody treatment, which is designed to fight the infection, according to WBNS-TV.

First lady Fran DeWine, who is experiencing no symptoms, has tested negative for COVID-19, the governor’s office stated. She is also fully vaccinated, according to the television station.

DeWine tested positive for COVID-19 in 2020 before testing negative later the same day, WBNS reported.

DeWine’s diagnosis comes just 18 days before Ohio’s gubernatorial primary on May 3, in which he faces two Republican challengers. The governor was scheduled to attend a celebration of the 200th birthday of President Ulysses S. Grant, an Ohio native, later this month.
