Nicole Kidman may be the front-runner to play Lucille Ball for an Amazon Studios biopic, but fans say there is someone who would be better in the role of the iconic comedian: Debra Messing.
Messing has already played Lucy in a 2020 episode of “Will & Grace.” Watch a clip from the show where Messing reenacts the classic “Vitameatavegamin” commercial.
Messing took to social media to campaign for the role in “Being the Ricardos,” which will follow Ball and her actor/singer husband Desi Arnaz during a week of producing “I Love Lucy,” Deadline and Entertainment Tonight reported.
Javier Bardem is also being courted to play Arnaz in the Aaron Sorkin-helmed production. Sorkin is both writing and directing the movie, Deadline reported.
Messing has some star-studded support in her quest to play Ball, with Valerie Bertinelli tweeting that the actor was robbed.
One person suggested that instead of Bardem, Oscar Issacs would be perfect to play opposite Messing.
Another comment said, “Debra is Lucy reincarnated all the way!” The Los Angeles Times reported.
Messing herself jumped into the debate when one Twitter user wondered if she was unavailable, responding, “Oh no, I’m available,” the Times reported.
