“Safety is always our No. 1 priority and while unruly passenger incidents are rare, there is no place for them on our aircraft or in our airports,” the statement said.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration have been tracking reports of unruly passengers. Authorities said such reports have dropped since the agency launched its zero-tolerance campaign against unruly passenger behavior in January, although they remain high.

As part of the campaign, officials bypass their regular process of sending warning letters in favor of immediately fining unruly passengers. As of Tuesday, the FAA has received nearly 5,780 reports of airline passengers acting out. Officials have launched more than 1,050 investigations.
